About the exhibition and artist
The contradictory forces of nature, its illusive beauty yet potential violence, are an ongoing metaphor for Susan Norrie. Norrie presents a multi-faceted video installation at the Palazzo Giustinian Lolin that explores the pervasive geopolitical issues of a planet in turmoil. Sequences of natural and manmade disasters are merged in her work and overlaid with mesmerising soundscapes.

This new commission will continue the artist’s investigation into the tension between beauty and terror, between surface appearances and what may lie beneath.

Susan Norrie is committed to documenting the ‘truths of our experiences, not just simply erasing history and supporting a collective amnesia.’

Norrie recently participated in the Busan Biennale South Korea, and has exhibited at Art Tower Mito, Japan 2004; Hamburger Bahnof, Germany 2003; Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Finland 2001; Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art, UK 1999; National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea 1992; and Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA1984/87.
